A Grade 12 certificate. No experience required. A post matric qualification (NQF 6)
will be an added advantage.
Knowledge of government regulations and international agreements relating to the
management of invasive alien species such as the National Environmental
Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA) and its associated regulations, the
Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the World Trade Organisation Agreement
on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (WTO-SPS Agreement),
the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the World Organisation
for Animal Health (WOAH).
Understanding of alien and invasive species management.
Understanding of compliance monitoring. coordination and stakeholder
Good report writing skills.
Good communication, interpersonal and administrative skills.
Competency in the use of a computer and MS Office software.
Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently as
well as in a team.
Willingness to travel, work shifts and irregular hours.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Assist in conducting inspections at international passengers’ terminals, departures,
cargo, Fireblade Aviation and Mail Centre and keep records thereof.
Handle complaints, queries and enquiries from clients/stakeholders.
Compile and maintain records of intercepted specimens.
Provide support on the completion of the EMI pocketbook.

National School of Government (NSG) is required for all SMS applicants.

o Shortlisted candidates must provide proof of successful completion of the course.
o Furthermore, candidates shortlisted for the SMS post will be subjected to a technical exercise that intends
to test relevant technical elements of the job.
o Following the interview and the technical exercise, the selection panel will recommend candidates to attend
a generic managerial competency assessment in compliance with the DPSA directive on the implementation
of competency-based assessments.
The person appointed to this position will be subjected to a security clearance, the signing of a performance
agreement and an employment contract.
