Purpose of Job /Role Intent:

The successful candidates will be responsible for Sasolburg & Ekandustria Operations (SEO) longer- and shorter- term Sustainability efforts that includes development and management of Energy Efficiency, Greenhouse gas emissions, Water usage and Environmental roadmaps and solutions. This will include technical solutions co-ordination, leading opportunity definitions for new projects and reporting of improvement initiatives for SEO.

All three incumbents will be involved in the complete portfolio but accountabilities will be split between:

• Environmental and Energy Efficiency
• GHG programs and opportunity development
• Sustainability projects execution and delivery.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required

Must:

BSc. Chemical Eng or B. Eng (Chem) with at least 10 years’ experience or;

M Eng. (Chem) with at least 8 years’ experience

Key accountabilities / Core Elements of Job

Business Results

• Overall technically accountable for definition of, measurement and technical reporting of SEO energy efficiency, GHG, Water and environmental related projects and roadmap progress.
• The timeous reporting of the sustainable metrics (SuPM) for SEO.
• Ensure timeous reporting of monthly SEO Energy Efficiency performance data via the EnMS Electronic Module to the Sasol Group EE Management team.
• Further refinement of SEO’s Daily Energy Efficiency monitoring and reporting tools.
• Drive and co-ordinate, where needed, technical initiatives and projects in various areas to improve SEO’s Energy Efficiency, as a minimum up to passing Gate 1 (Large projects) or completing Stage 1 (Tier 4 and smaller projects) when the lead role will handover to the Technology Group or an Engineering contractor (EC).
• Technical evaluation and review of air emissions measurement and monitoring, as well as results reporting.
• Third party technical interface for waste handling solutions alternatives (non-landfill) development & implementation.
• Maintenance of water & effluent, water usage, steam and electricity usage models
• Ensure ARC updates completed for all energy related projects

Leadership and Strategic Direction

• Co-ordinate and chair minimum quarterly SEO Energy Efficiency Forum with short, medium and long term view.
• Encourage holistic and long term view on Energy related problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Encourage knowledge sharing within SEO Energy Forum and also with forums of other ROH’s.
• Active involvement (SEO Energy Efficiency reporting and knowledge sharing) in the Sasol Group.
• Ensure effective stakeholder engagement with, amongst other, Operations, Technical Support, Sustainability groups, Sasol Group Energy Efficiency Forum members, SEO Energy Champions & Forum, Technology and third party subject matter experts.

Governance, Compliance and Risk Management

• Identify process deviations, threats, risks and opportunities through monitoring of SEO’s Energy Efficiency, GHG emissions and Environmental performance.
• Highlight and lead mitigation of impacts from other sites and areas such as Gas supply, coal demand and utilisation, Secunda feedstocks;
• Utilise plant information (mass balances, energy balances, critical parameters, levers, predictive monitoring tools) to deliver on SEO’s Energy Efficiency improvement plans and targets.
• Ensure all requirements to enable Section 12L tax claims are addressed / met during engineering of all Energy Efficiency Improvement projects and normal operations.
• Full accountability for management of the SEO Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Reporting procedures to align with Sasol Group reporting standards.
• Accountable for verification of the accuracy of internal and third party air emissions analytical measurement methodologies and reporting, inclusive of confirming plant stability (Key Emission Controls) when samples are taken.

Project Execution Performance

• Provide process engineering support and input in Sustainability and Energy projects and initiatives, such as:
• Co-ordinate and track progress of energy efficiency improvement projects portfolio within SEO;

• Co-ordinate and track progress of GHG improvement projects portfolio within SEO;
• Co-ordinate and track progress of environmental improvement projects portfolio within SEO;
• Ensure appropriate governance are applied with regards to the process scope (conformance to standards and specifications);
• Participation in applicable design and safety reviews;
• Supply techno-economical inputs into business unit business cases establishment and review;
• Play a supporting role in Environmental project technology selection & engineering development by Group Technology / Engineering Contractor.

• NEES 2030:  Drive and ensure SEO compliance in meeting 15% reduction in Energy Intensity by end 2030, compared to 2015 baseline.
• Monitor carbon emissions and manage the integration link between carbon emissions and energy efficiency.
