Job Description | (1) Health and safety • Set direction and lead by example to embed a culture of health and safety • Develop and maintain a risk assessment of safety risks across DCs. • Implement effective mitigation actions • Conduct on-going training regarding health and safety • Ensure compliance with legislation and company policies • Lead the monthly health and safety committee meetings. Ensure these meetings are effective and that actions plans are executed within expectations • Ensure the necessary legislative training is conducted on time (e.g. licenses, health and safety representatives, fire marshals, first aiders etc.) • Report on safety incidents correctly and timeously. An initial email needs to be sent to managers within 4 hours. A formal incident report needs to be completed and signed within 72 hours • Report on health and safety matters to management using the prescribed metrics and ratios e.g. DIFR, IODs, incidents etc. • Develop and maintain visible SOPs to ensure a safe working environment • Achieve health and safety targets (Incidents, IODs and DIFR) • Manage coordination, procurement and effective use of PPE across all DC’s (2) Environment and Facilities • Ensure the DCs meet all environmental legislative requirements • Monitor and report on usage of resources – water usage, energy usage, recycling etc • Manage the security service provider(s). Ensure the level of security across sites is effective. Lead periodic security meetings where incidents are discussed and addressed • Be a responsible appointed TDC key holder and attend to call outs when required • Communicate and enforce 5S standards across DCs • Ensure all fire equipment is serviced and is operational • Conduct fire evacuation drills twice per annum for each DC • Ensure that the DC exterior and grounds are maintained and remains neat at all time • Ensure daily inspections are conducted ensuring health, safety and environmental standards are maintained (3) People and Team Management • Enthusiastically drives PDD process and 360 feedback process (where applicable) of all team members • Ensures all team members have a personal Development Plan (based on their PDD, 360 and other feedback) and supports and monitors progress with the aim of driving performance and succession • Constructively and fairly deals with poor performance (application of IR procedures) • Ensures accurate and timeous completion of staff documentation e.g. Leave, maternity, training records, etc • Recruits people who meet the Truworths competencies and values (Staff turnover succession plans) • Effectively inducts new and transferring employees into the team (Company values, culture, etc) • A Degree/Diploma in Logistics/Supply Chain/Health & Safety or Environmental management or equivalent (NQF level 6 relevant qualification) essential. • Minimum 5 to 6 years of experience at a management/supervisory level within a Distribution Centre operation • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in facilities management • Experience in SHE legislation, Distribution Centre Processes and Risk Assessments • Formal Training completed in Fire Fighting, First Aid and/or as a Health Safety Representative essential • Ability to self-manage, motivate and independently drive performance in a challenging environment • Ability to work with management to identify shortcomings and introduce changes as and when required to improve the SHE environment • Proven ability to manage relationships with 3rd party service providers • High levels of integrity, diligence and commitment • Excellent administration skills • Excellent computer literacy |

Qualifications and Experience | • A Degree/Diploma in Logistics/Supply Chain/Health & Safety or Environmental management or equivalent (NQF level 6 relevant qualification) essential. • Minimum 5-6 years of experience at a management/supervisory level within a Distribution Centre operation • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in facilities management • Experience in SHE legislation, Distribution Centre Processes and Risk Assessments • Formal Training completed in Fire Fighting, First Aid and/or as a Health Safety Representative essential • Ability to self-manage, motivate and independently drive performance in a challenging environment • Ability to work with management to identify shortcomings and introduce changes as and when required to improve the SHE environment • Proven ability to manage relationships with 3rd party service providers |
