Saps Position: Police Trainee

Salary:

  • Institution Phase (Basic Training in the Academies): Stipend of R4500 per month
  • Probation Phase (After Training in the Academies): Salary notch of R216,033 per annum

Upon successful completion of training, appointees will receive service benefits as per the probation phase. Appointments will be made in accordance with the SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995) and successful candidates will serve as Police Trainees on contract basis.

Police Trainee – Requirements and Remuneration

Join the SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE (SAPS) as a Police Trainee if you meet the following criteria:

  • Body Mass Index of less than 30
  • Waist circumference of ≤102 cm (males) and ≤88 cm (females)

Remuneration:

  • Institution Phase (Basic Training in the Academies): Stipend of R4500 per month
  • Probation Phase (After Training in the Academies): Salary notch of R186,483 per annum
    In addition to this, appointees will receive applicable service benefits.

Upon successful completion of training, candidates will be appointed in accordance with the SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995) and will serve as functional police officials. They will be deployed to carry out functions such as preventing, combating, and investigating crime, maintaining public order, protecting and securing inhabitants and their property, and upholding and enforcing the law.

Join the South African Police Service (SAPS) Programme for a 21-month Training Opportunity

The South African Police Service (SAPS) offers a 21-month training programme designed to prepare individuals for a career in law enforcement. This programme, hereafter referred to as the PROGRAMME, consists of three essential phases:

  1. Induction Phase
  • One (1) month at a designated police station
  1. Basic Training Phase
  • Eight (8) months of basic training at a designated SAPS Academy, including practical training at a designated police station
  1. Probation Phase
  • After successful completion of the Induction and Basic Training Phases, the police trainee shall be appointed as a member of the Service under probation for 12 months

During the Basic Training Phase, the Service will provide the police trainee with free training gear, meals, and accommodation. Additionally, trainees will receive medical aid benefits for the duration of the 21-month Basic Training Learning Programme. Upon successful completion of the programme, trainees will be considered for permanent appointment as members of the SAPS.
