Recruitment for SA Navy divers in progress
The South African (SA) Navy is searching for potential divers all over the country.
Divers are integral to all missions and operations of the SA Navy and their invaluable functions include, among others, underwater and coastal reconnaissance, search and rescue, clearance diving, demolitions and salvage operations.
This search commenced on Monday, 24 April, and will end on Tuesday, 30 May.
This is a specific targeted search to recruit diver candidates for the SA Navy, which is one of the arms of services of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
Criteria
Interested candidates should be South African citizens; must be aged 18 to 22 years, and should have completed matric with pure mathematics. Interested persons older than 22 years should be in possession of a tertiary qualification, but not be older than 26 years.
Selection process
Potential candidates are required to bring swimming costumes and physical training attire (such as a vest or T-shirt, shorts and running shoes) as they will be put through a selection process that will include physical training and water activities.
For water activities, they will be required to conduct a 300 m freestyle swim, 50 m snorkel swim, 50 m swim with a flooded diving mask, 25 m under-water swim, and a 50 m weight-belt swim.
For physical activities, they will be required to conduct a 2,4 km run in under 13 minutes and complete 40 push-ups, 50 sit-ups, and 7 pull-ups.
Successful candidates will be subjected to the Human Resources recruitment process and will form part of the 2024 Military Skills Development Skills intake.
