Requirements:
 A Grade 12 certificate. No experience required. A post matric qualification (NQF 6)
will be an added advantage.
 Knowledge of government regulations and international agreements relating to the
management of invasive alien species such as the National Environmental
Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA) and its associated regulations, the
Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the World Trade Organisation Agreement
on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (WTO-SPS Agreement),
the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the World Organisation
for Animal Health (WOAH).
 Understanding of alien and invasive species management.
 Understanding of compliance monitoring. coordination and stakeholder
management.
 Good report writing skills.
 Good communication, interpersonal and administrative skills.
 Competency in the use of a computer and MS Office software.
 Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently as
well as in a team.
 Willingness to travel, work shifts and irregular hours.
 Must have a valid driver’s license.
Duties:
 Assist in conducting inspections at international passengers’ terminals, departures,
cargo, Fireblade Aviation and Mail Centre and keep records thereof.
 Handle complaints, queries and enquiries from clients/stakeholders.
 Compile and maintain records of intercepted specimens.
 Provide support on the completion of the EMI pocketbook.

o Shortlisted candidates must provide proof of successful completion of the course.
o Furthermore, candidates shortlisted for the SMS post will be subjected to a technical exercise that intends
to test relevant technical elements of the job.
o Following the interview and the technical exercise, the selection panel will recommend candidates to attend
a generic managerial competency assessment in compliance with the DPSA directive on the implementation
of competency-based assessments.
 The person appointed to this position will be subjected to a security clearance, the signing of a performance
agreement and an employment contract.
