REQUIREMENTS : Matric Certificate plus Traffic Officer`s Diploma and a valid driver’s license. 1-
year practical experience in traffic law enforcement. No criminal record or case
pending against you. A valid code 08/10 driver’s licence. Knowledge and Skills:
Good record and resource management. Good customer relationship
management abilities. Knowledge and understanding of road traffic and public
transport policies and regulations. Completion of law enforcement documents.
Knowledge of vehicle inspections and vehicle impoundment. Knowledge of
firearms and ammunition Act 60/100. Knowledge of departmental guidelines
on overload control and escort duties (Transport Handbook) 11. Ability to work
under pressure. Good observation skills. Good driving and negations skills.
Sound interpersonal and conflict resolutions skills. Good written and verbal
communication skills in at least two of the provincial official languages.
DUTIES : Enforce Road Traffic, public passenger and Transport legislation. Implement
planned and approved traffic law enforcement activities. Ensure the free flow
of traffic through point duty and traffic control at congested areas. Co-ordinate
activities at and safeguard accident scenes. Identify and advice Management
on hazardous locations. Participate in traffic policing projects and speed testing
operations. Carry out duties of a Peace Officer. Issue notices and execute
arrests under relevant acts. Directives and procedures and attend court
proceedings and give evidence. Escort abnormal vehicles and loads to ensure
the safe movement thereof and co-ordinate overload control management
(includes goods and passengers). Provide visible traffic control/policing and
promote/ensure crime prevention activities. Scan, validate and filter vehicles
identified by means of an e-tag or VLN plates. Request details of driver the
regards the e-tag registration, vehicle ownership, status of toll account etc.
Advise non-paying drivers of the consequences of driving on the e-road.
Confiscate unauthorized tags or equipment. Issue toll infringement notices.
Carry out roadworthy checks on motor vehicles and carry out general law
enforcement duties such as moving violations. Check motor vehicles that are
exempt from the payment of toll to ensure such exemption is valid and the user
complies with the requirements for the exemption.
